About InsuranceFinder & Listing Methodology
How our directory operates, how listings are selected and presented, and why we connect consumers directly to state Department of Insurance (DOI) registries rather than issuing subjective trust badges.
1. Directory, not an agency — zero sold contact forms
InsuranceFinder is a clean public directory of independent insurance agencies and insurance carriers across the United States. We are not an insurance brokerage, we do not issue quotes, and we do not sell policies or take commissions.
Unlike lead-generation portals, we do not require consumers to fill out contact forms to view rates. When you search InsuranceFinder, you see real business names, physical office locations, and published telephone numbers to contact firms directly on your terms.
2. How listing works: Ad vs. Free
Every market and coverage search is transparently organized:
- One protected Ad placement: Exactly one licensed firm per geographic market × coverage line may sponsor the top placement. This placement is always clearly labeled with an Ad badge.
- Free organic listings: Free listings for licensed independent agencies and insurance companies sit underneath the top placement. Free listings are never capped, suppressed, or paywalled.

3. We don’t “verify” — we link official DOI registries
We reject subjective, pay-to-play trust badges, “verified by directory” seals, and fake star reviews. Insurance licensing is an official regulatory matter governed by state insurance commissioners, not directory operators.
Instead of claiming subjective verification, InsuranceFinder:
- Publishes official state license numbers and NAIC codes when present on the listing.
- Gates the “Licensed” badge strictly on real, verifiable license numbers. When no license number is on file, we do not make unverified licensing claims.
- Provides direct, one-click outbound links to official state Department of Insurance (DOI) license lookup portals across all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

4. Sort disclosure: Listings are not ranked as “best”
Listings in InsuranceFinder search results are not ranked as “best”, rated, or evaluated based on insurance quality.
Search ordering is determined strictly by relevance to the searched geographic location and coverage type:
- The single protected Ad placement matching that market and coverage line (if active).
- Independent agencies located within the searched city or ZIP code.
- Independent agencies licensed across that state jurisdiction.
- National insurance carriers licensed for that line of authority.
No firm can purchase higher algorithmic rankings, star ratings, or customer recommendations within the organic listing tiers.
