In Missouri it is illegal to drive a car without auto insurance. The vehicle driver is required to show evidence of insurance to any law enforcement official, when asked, or a ticket will be given to the driver. If convicted not showing proof of insurance one of three things will happen to the driver:

1. Four points will be added to your drivers license. It only takes a eight points within 18-months to have your licensed suspended in Missouri.
2. You can be monitored to make sure you maintain auto insurance at all times. This is done through the Driver License Bureau and a court order.
3. Your license could be suspended.

When shopping for car insurance it’s important to know what coverages are required. The state of Missouri requires motorists to carry liability coverage and UIM (Underinsured Motorist Coverage.) Liability is the portion of car insurance coverage that covers the other party’s car and injuries should you be found at-fault. The minimum limits for liability coverage is 25/50/10. This will provide $25,000 for bodily injury for one person, $50,000 for bodily injury per accident, and $10,000 for property damage per accident. UIM’s minimum limits are the same as Liability.

The Missouri Automobile Insurance Plan:
