Maryland Automobile Insurance Requirements:
State Requirements for liability car insurance are $20,000 per person and no more than $40,000 for the entire accident. The minimum requirement for property damage in Maryland is $15,000. Property damage covers the other persons property if you cause the car accident.

Your auto insurance quote may also include some optional car Insurance coverages. These coverages include personal injury protection (PIP) and uninsured motorist (UM) coverage. Maryland car insurance law requires auto insurance companies to offer $2,500 in PIP per person for medical benefits. It also includes loss of income up to 85% for three years. You can reject this coverage, which would reduce your car insurance rate but it must be done in writing. In Maryland, UM coverage includes underinsured motorist (UIM) coverage. If purchased, UM coverage must be equal to the amount of bodily injury coverage purchased, unless waive this option in writing.

Motorcycle Owners:
Car insurance companies are not required to offer lost income benefits under a PIP to motorcycle owners. If the car insurance company offers it, the auto insurance company can require deductibles or specific exclusions. For more information, contact a Maryland automobile insurance agent now.
