About Arizona Car Insurance
Arizona requires that every car be covered by liability insurance, through a company that is authorized to do business in Arizona. This includes golf carts, motorcycles and mopeds.

Minimum levels of liability insurance are:

* $15,000 bodily injury liability for one person and $30,000 for two or more persons
* $10,000 property damage liability

There is a seven-day grace period in Arizona for payment of auto insurance. This means a car insurance company cannot cancel a policy earlier than 12:01 am on the eight day. If you send a payment and it is returned for insufficient funds, this payment does not constitute a payment within the grace period. You, as the policyholder are responsible for knowing whether or not funds are available. The grace period is not extended by this action. For more information on Arizona car insurance grace period visit the Arizona Department of Insurance’s website.

Determining Your Eligibility For Insurance
When applying for Arizona auto insurance, insurance companies will take several factors into consideration. The two most commonly used are your credit history and claims reports.

Car insurance companies use your credit to give you an Arizona auto insurance score. When determining an Arizona auto insurance score, the most common factors used are:

Public records
Payment history
Length of credit history
Inquiries for credit
Number of open credit lines
Type of credit in use
Unused credit
Having no credit can be a factor in determining whether or not you are able to purchase Arizona car insurance. Arizona auto insurance law requires a car insurance company tell you if it took an “adverse action” based on credit related information.
Adverse actions include:
Being declined coverage
Having your coverage terminated
The agent fails to apply for coverage with the insurance company you requested
Being assigned to a higher rating tier

Insurance scores vary from one insurance company to another, having a “good” score with one will not necessarily get you a low rate with another car insurance company.
To learn more about how your credit affects your car insurance rates you can visit the Arizona Department of Insurance.

Car insurance companies also use a claims database to help verify who has filed claims and how much money was paid to each party. The car insurance claims database is called Comprehensive Loss Underwriting Exchange (also known as C.L.U.E.) Participating auto insurance companies exchange claim information, sometimes without independent verification. You can check your claims history at
